Edmontons Janmark Scores Breakaway Goal To Spur Oilers To Victory

Oilers Tie Series With 5-3 Win in Game 2

Edmonton's Janmark Scores Breakaway Goal to Spur Oilers to Victory

The Edmonton Oilers fought off elimination once again on Saturday night, defeating the Florida Panthers 5-3 on the road to tie their second-round playoff series at 1-1.

After dropping the series opener at home on Wednesday, the Oilers needed a big performance in Game 2 and they got it thanks in large part to a first-period breakaway goal by Kailer Yamamoto. Yamamoto took a pass from Connor McDavid and beat Panthers goalie Sergei Bobrovsky with a wrist shot to give the Oilers an early 1-0 lead.

The Oilers would add to their lead in the second period with goals from Leon Draisaitl and Evan Bouchard, but the Panthers would not go away quietly. Florida cut the lead to 3-2 with a goal from Aleksander Barkov late in the second period, and then tied the game early in the third period on a goal from Sam Bennett.

However, the Oilers would regain the lead for good on a power-play goal from McDavid midway through the third period, and they would add an empty-net goal from Zach Hyman in the final minute to seal the victory.

Mike Smith made 30 saves in net for the Oilers, while Bobrovsky stopped 27 shots for the Panthers.

The series now shifts to Edmonton for Game 3 on Monday night.
